Hoped

I call NOW This far outside Of where I am And what I hoped for

Not just another nobody Walking through Publix Like I am now And "Hoped" seems deliberate And past-tense At twenty-five

But wait man, no, wait I can still do it Watch this - I'm talented And damn sure not another Nobody walking through Publix Please, God, don't let me be Another stupid nobody

I can be something bigger And faster But just don't look At that credit-report Or my tattered clothes My insecurities like zits I thought I lost them ten years ago Years

I'm not going to hope anymore
